Last night, The Miz cashed in his Money In the Bank briefcase to become a two-time WWE Champion. Logically this sets up his match at WrestleMania, but that might not be the case after all.
For weeks, The Miz and John Morrison have been antagonizing Damian Priest and Bad Bunny, and it’s certainly looked like it has been heading toward a match at WrestleMania, one that was at least said to be a certainty. However, Miz being the WWE Champion would certainly complicate that match.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about how WWE is likely to make Miz’s reign short, however with Bad Bunny’s involvement in the title change. Meltzer did note that it probably wouldn’t be the best decision for whoever dethrones Miz to get assistance from the rapper.
“Damian Priest and Bad Bunny vs The Miz and John Morrison, that was the match that was originally for WrestleMania and I presume it still will be. I figure Bad Bunny and Damian Priest will be involved in — you don’t want them to be the reason he loses the title — especially if it’s to McIntyre, but they’ll probably be involved in some form of that to set up the other match, I’m just going to guess, you know it just makes sense to do it that way, but yeah, it’s kinda tricky.”
The Miz’s reign looks to be short, and it probably wouldn’t have gone down that way had they not been so close to the briefcase expiring. However, with Miz’s program locked in for Mania, it seems that they’re not deviating from that plan while they begin to build up the road to WrestleMania.
