Progress Wrestling Release Statement Regarding Paul Robinson’s Status

Progress returned on Saturday and although for the most part the show was well received by fans across the UK, happy to see one of the top British Independent Promotions return, however there was a section of fans who questioned the involvement of Paul Robinson. Paul Robinson was named as part of the Speaking Out Movement for a relationship he had with a girl aged only 16, he is currently Progress’ Proteus Champion, at the time Progress did not respond to any fans questions choosing to remain silent.

Earlier today Progress Wrestling released a statement on their web page, regarding the involvement of Paul Robinson and his involvement with their most recent and future shows;

Update 22nd February 2021

“It was always our intent to name talent competing on each card, so that those who wish to watch can make a judgement for themselves. When a talent is working in a non-performing capacity, we require their permission to name them publically.

Paul Robinson has agreed that we can state that he was working as an agent on Chapters 104-108. Paul Robinson would have been an in ring competitor on this card, which changed only with conflicts of availability, and would have meant him being announced in the originally planned card.

To reiterate our statement from 20th February, all talent were aware who would be working backstage on the show, and no issues were raised. We are happy that everyone working on that show has passed all of our vetting procedures.

We ask if anyone has information about any of our talent or crew please get in contact via [email protected] and we will act on the information accordingly. Thank you for all those who watched Chapter 104, we are looking forward to Chapter 105 this weekend.

All The Best,

Team PROGRESS

As per their statement, it would seem that yes Paul Robinson was and is involved as agent for chapters 104-108 and would have actually competed on the card had there not been availability conflicts.

As it would seem Progress management and the competitors seem to happy with the inclusion of Paul Robinson, it seems all were aware he was part of the restart, although some competitors may not have been aware of the indiscretion with so many names being called out during the speaking out movement.

However this statement is unlikely to appease fans who questioned Robinson involvement as many feel he should not have been involved due to his actions that lead him to be named as part of the Speaking Out movement. Despite this, even the person who named Robinson did mention that compared to others named his transgressions were minimal, it is more a case of it being morally wrong due to her age and the fact that there was alcohol involved.
