Adam Copeland Says It’s “A Little Surreal” To Be Wrestling Under His Real Name

Lee South Christian Cage vs Darby Allin Seattle, WA AEW Wrestledream October 1, 2023

Adam Copeland says its a little surreal to be wrestling under his real name for the first time since the beginning of his career.

Copeland is now in AEW, so of course has found himself unable to use the name he has gone by for most of his career: Edge.

However, it does not seem to bother Copeland, as during his AEW Dynamite, he was enjoying the crowd chanting “Adam” over and over again.

Now, in an interview with “Doc” Chris Mueller of Bleacher Report, Copeland spoke at length regarding using his real name for the first time since he began his career.

“It’s so strange because my first trainer, Ron Hutchison, when we would run shows in and around the Toronto area, he always wanted to bill me as Adam Copeland,” he said. “And I was always kind of fighting it kicking and screaming, I was like, ‘No, I want to be Adam Impact, or I want to be Sexton Hardcastle’ because you need to have, you know, a cool name.

“And then I came to realize that I actually kind of enjoyed wrestling as Adam Copeland. When I started doing dark matches with WWF, at the time that I was coming in, it was all character names. And kind of like the one-word character name, right? So it’s fun actually to wrestle as Adam Copeland.

On Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, Adam would ask Christian Cage to team with him again, for one final run as the legendary tag team they once were.

Christian however, did not feel like it and gave Copeland an expletive laden answer.

Adam will face Luchsauras in singles action next Tuesday.
