AEW Divided Over Signing Tessa Blanchard

AEW is always looking to sign top talent, especially if they can help make the company better. Now, it seems, they’re leaning toward signing one of the top free agents available on the open market.

Tessa Blanchard was released from Impact Wrestling just days before her contract was set to expire. The pandemic made it difficult to travel, as she had been living in Mexico with her now-husband Daga. There were rumors she had refused to work the match to drop the title and she wanted a bigger pay day to come to the show to drop the title. Her reign had also been plagued about allegations of her personal behavior, namely of racist behavior and bullying.

Now according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is a pull backstage in AEW to bring Blanchard in, though there is still pushback on it based on the allegations.

AEW has people who really want Tessa Blanchard in but feel that they can’t do so.

The AEW women’s division has been in flux with injuries to top talent like Kris Statlander and their joshi talent stuck in Japan. A signing like Blanchard could do a lot to boost the division, but with a company that has been so big on promoting inclusion an addition like Blanchard could be equally divisive between the fan base and the locker room.
