Backstage Reaction To Bruce Prichard’s Interview With Sam Roberts

Bruce Prichard is sitting very well in the WWE. As one of the few people who consistently has Vince McMahon’s ear, the Executive Director of both Raw and SmackDown is widely considered the most powerful man in the WWE that isn’t a McMahon family member or Kevin Dunn. However, a recent appearance on a podcast has left a lot of people with a bad taste in their mouth.

Prichard was a guest on a WWE Network edition of the Not Sam podcast with Sam Roberts, and Ringside News has learned that many people within WWE has viewed the appearance as “an embarrassment,” especially among producers and members of the writing team who have seen it.

A WWE producer spoke to the website and and felt the impression gave off by Prichard in the interview was that he was someone who knew better than the fans did.

“He is arrogant, entitled, all-knowing and thinks he’s smarter than the audience and that he can dictate to the audience instead of listening to the audience and presenting a product that the audience will want and support.”

Another note was that there was a degree of surprise that Prichard didn’t “reign himself in” before the show. Instead, he opened up in an unexpected way and it came off as not a good look.

The podcast was most noted for Prichard boldly saying fans don’t like what they don’t understand.

“It was different, it was new for the time. People don’t like change. People don’t like when you take away what they’re used to and you give them someone else. It’s like, ‘I’ve never seen this person before, who the Hell’s this guys?!’ They’ll focus on what they don’t understand so it’s ‘I don’t understand it, I don’t like it;’ because it’s not comfortable.”

Prichard has not made a lot of fans backstage, and it’s said he has a lot of heat with much of the talent. He seems to be digging a deeper and deeper hole for himself.
