AEW Dynamite:7/26/2023 Preview

Today’s explosive episode of AEW Dynamite emanates from the MVP Arena in Albany, New York. Now outside of tournament season and the blood feud between The Elite and Blackpool Combat Club seems to have ended, traditional matches resume and stories are back on track. With that said, let’s get into the festivities, shall we?

PAC vs Gravity

See, the joke is that when PAC was Neville in WWE, he was given the tagline as “the man that gravity forgot”, and now he’s wrestling a luchador named Gravity. Get the joke? Do you get the joke? Do you? Pretty funny, right? Yeah, that’s the joke.

Orange Cassidy (c) vs AR Fox (AEW International Championship)

AR Fox has been given a big opportunity. Orange has to be weak and tired as the title holder. What could be easy fodder for Cassidy considering what he’s faced could mean the world to AR Fox; like a homeless person gifted a small chunk from a billionaire’s budget, this could be lifechanging. Could we see the good hand in Fox be the one that finally grabs the title, or will Jefferson Starship’s “Jane” play before the next challenger steps to Cassidy?

We’ll hear form MJF & Adam Cole

The super serious FTR aren’t playing games with MJF and Adam Cole. These winners of the Blind Eliminator Tag Tournament have bonded so well that you’d be forgiven for not remembering the venom shared betwixt the two pre-Forbidden Door. With these men connected with absolute chemistry, however, fans have been won over, matching the hype and love that FTR has. What will Cole and Friedman have to say, though? Will we see seeds sewn of dissension and betrayal, or will the friendship strengthen?

Darby Allin vs Swerve Strickland

Darby Allin’s young associate Nick Wayne was demolished soundly by Swerve Strickland a couple of weeks ago. After teaming up with CM Punk last week, Allin sets his sights on his former enemy in what’s sure to be a great meeting of styles that continues what may be a story I’ll personally be following closely. Excited for this.

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. vs Taya Valkyrie

Issuing a challenge to the dentist on last week’s episode of AEW Collision, La Wera Loca seeks to gain any kind of momentum, even at the expense of the unofficial fifth pillar of the company. We haven’t seen hide nor tail of Britt much aside from the squash of Kayla Sparks on last week’s Dynamite and the Owen Hart Cup match against Ruby Soho. She hasn’t had much to do since Jamie Hayter was taken out on injury, and ever since fan complaints of the homegrown talents vs the Outcasts overtaking the division, it feels she’s become an afterthought. I don’t mean to sound like a pretentious white knight over here, but it feels that the fans and the company do need to cooperate better when it comes to the women’s division, or else nobody’s going to be given a chance. Anyways, I’ve ranted enough. This is a clash of women who have built their names, so this should be a fun match. Please give this some time, I want to see something develop from this.

Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli vs Lucha Bros vs Best Friends

At the end of PAC and Claudio’s match at Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor, chaos erupted. This comes to a clash tonight. Whether or not The Blackpool Combat Club is face or heel or just morally grey is in the air, but is not the focus here. As they tie up loose ends in the Lucha Brothers and Best Friends interference, there’s a lot of ways this can go. Penta and Fenix could gain retribution for PAC, Best Friends could get a one-up against the luchadores and even BCC for “stealing” Wheeler away. Moxley and Claudio could stay ahead in momentum. A lot of ways this can go, honestly. Regardless, this will be a fun triple threat and could be the next big story coming out of Blood & Guts.

As AEW shifts from ended storylines and tournaments, I’m excited to see the threads that will unravel and flow forth and truly see what Dynamite will be now it’s free to be itself once more.

Catch AEW: Dynamite tonight at 8ᴘᴍ ET/ 7ᴘᴍ CT on TBS.
