Alexander Volkanovski Cleared to Fight, Teases being Backup Fighter for UFC 280

The current UFC Featherweight champion could be eyeing a second belt before the end of the year.

Alexander Volkanovski has teased moving up to Lightweight to fight for the gold after his successful title defense vs. Max Holloway at UFC 276.

The king of the 135 division tweeted today that he is cleared to fight and is eyeing next month’s PPV in Abu Dhabi which is being headlined by Islam Makhachev vs. Charles Oliveira for the vacant Lightweight championship.

If either man were to have to pull out of the headliner, it would make the most sense for Volkanovski to step in and fight for the championship. He’s got to wait for the UFC to find a rightful contender for his title so why not move up for the time being and cash bigger checks?

We will keep you updated on any news we receive on Volkanovski and the Lightweight championship picture.
