Dana White Wants Dariush, Not Title Shot Next For Islam Makhachev

What a two weeks its been for Islam Makhachev. His original opponent for UFC Vegas 49 was forced out of the bout with a broken leg and when a very game Bobby Green stepped in, Islam did what he had to do and stopped Green in round one. However, this performance was not enough for Dana White who, while also citing Islam’s apparent changing of mind in regard to fighting Rafael Dos Anjos at 170 on a weeks notice at UFC 272, White wants to rebook the Dariush fight before Islam gets his title shot.

It seems a little unfair that Dana is critiquing Islam, currently on a ten fight win streak, would not want to fight someone a weight class above theirs and a very dangerous former champion in Rafael Dos Anjos. However, for the benefit of avoiding any controversy in the next number 1 contender, Makhachev and Dariush should absolutely be the fight to make in the lightweight top 5 and Dana White agreed saying, “(I’m) dying to see that fight.” With Dariush avoiding surgery, this fight could be booked sooner rather than later.
