The Best Of AEW Dark

For those who may not know, AEW currently hold a weekly show on their YouTube channel called AEW Dark. This show enables talent to grow themselves whilst being viewed all around the world. It also enables talents to learn their trade in an AEW environment, it’s a phenomenal idea. The other good thing is that it still plays a part in their rankings with wins and losses, so it’s not a wasted show like WWE’s Main Event.

I’ve looked over the channel and I’ve picked out some of the best AEW Dark matches I could find. I think as a journalist, the best thing you can be in the industry is neutral. It is great to have an opinion, but looking at both WWE and AEW at the moment, it is clear that AEW have a better direction for their talent. Whilst I’m not a fan of 8-man tag matches every week, I’m happy to see the talent get the ring time and building new talents on Dark.

So the first match I need to mention is on AEW Dark Episode 2, and it features Kenny Omega vs. Joey Janela in a No DQ match. With Dark being a new thing at this stage, it was great to see a main event talent like Omega on its show. What I also enjoyed about this match, is that it let Janela really show off his capabilities. Kenny and Janela where on fire in this match, and the suplex off the steel stairs really showed what this match was about.

The match had tables, ladders, chairs and steel stairs, but again the match had direction. Definitely up there as the greatest matches of AEW Dark. The ending of the V-Trigger and the One winged angel onto the chair really showed why this match deserves to be mentioned.

The next match I need to mention is is AEW Dark Episode 4, which involved Darby Allin vs. Jimmy Havoc vs. Jack Evans in a Street Fight. This match really showed the capability of both Darby Allin and Jack Evans. Jimmy Havoc was also fantastic, but the ability of Allin and Evans really shone.

Whilst the main point of a Street Fight is weapons, the match really showed the technical ability of the competitors and the crowd ate it up. The fight went all over the arena, and ended with Havoc pile driving Jack Evans through the table. Darby Allin jumped from the top rope with the coffin drop holding a chair onto Havoc and pinned Jack Evans for the win. Another great match and really helped push Darby’s stock within AEW.

The last match I want to mention is from AEW Dark Episode 1. The match consisted of Darby Allin vs. CIMA, and again the match let the crowd see what Darby Allin is capable of. Due to his look, a lot of people think Darby Allin is a one dimensional character. They think he’s a hardcore type of character only, but his ring presence and ability has developed exceptionally since joining AEW, and this match really shows it.

The one thing AEW seems to be really good at, is showing the ability of the international talent. Whilst NXT is also great at this, the characters seem to get lost on the main roster; Shinsuke Nakamura and Asuka are a prime example of this. CIMA seemed at home in AEW, and to see him wrestle Allin let both of their reputations get a small push. The reason I include this match is because it showed the side of Allin that I enjoy, his ability in the ring.

What matches have you enjoyed in AEW Dark that I could comment on next? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter, as I’d like to watch a lot more of these in the future.
