  • UFC Champion Alex Pereira Fronts New Project Rock Shoe Campaign

UFC Champion Alex Pereira Fronts New Project Rock Shoe Campaign

As UFC 328 approaches, reigning UFC champion Alex Pereira is stepping into the spotlight outside of the Octagon as the face of a new campaign from Project Rock and Under Armour.

Project Rock, the performance training brand founded by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in partnership with Under Armour, unveiled a new campaign centered around Pereira and the emotional pressure athletes face before stepping into competition. The campaign highlights the quieter, more personal side of fight preparation rather than the chaos and spectacle often attached to major UFC events.

The campaign follows Pereira during the tense moments leading up to a fight, focusing on the pressure, expectations, and mental weight carried by elite athletes before walking into battle. Rather than leaning entirely into intensity and aggression, the story pivots when Pereira notices a young fan in the crowd, reconnecting him with the deeper motivation behind his journey and career.

The message behind the campaign centers on the idea that even at the highest level of combat sports, athletes are still driven by personal purpose, inspiration, and the people who support them along the way.

The release also serves as the official launch of the new Project Rock BSR 5 Training Shoes. The “Blood. Sweat. Respect.” training shoe was designed to handle multiple forms of training, including strength work, HIIT sessions, conditioning, and mobility exercises.

You can see the new Alex Pereira Project Rock BSR 5’s below.

According to Under Armour, the BSR 5 was created to provide versatility throughout every phase of training, giving athletes a shoe built for both explosive performance and everyday preparation.

Pereira continues to be one of the UFC’s biggest global stars and most recognizable champions, making him a natural fit for the latest Project Rock campaign heading into one of the company’s biggest UFC promotional windows of the year.

The timing of the campaign alongside UFC 328 places additional focus on Pereira as one of the promotion’s marquee attractions, while also further connecting Project Rock and Under Armour to the combat sports audience.

Fans can expect the campaign to roll out across digital and social media platforms in the lead-up to UFC 328.

We will have coverage of UFC 328 here at Bodyslam.net, so check back for more updates.

PFL New York Presented by Arkham Will Air Live in the U.S. on ESPN From 7:00 pm EST on Friday, July 31

NEW YORK — May 26, 2026 — The Professional Fighters League (PFL) today announced that PFL Lightweight Champion Usman Nurmagomedov (21-0-0, 1 NC) is set to defend his title against the undefeated No. 3-ranked Archie “King” Colgan (13-0) at PFL New York Presented by Arkham on Friday, July 31, at UBS Arena in Belmont Park, Long Island, New York.

Also announced in the co-main event is the return of No.1-ranked Dakota “Dangerous” Ditcheva (15-0), who will step back in the cage at flyweight after recovering from two separate hand injuries in the past 12 months, and will stand opposite former Bellator Kickboxing World Champion and No. 6-ranked Denise “Miss Dynamite” Kielholtz (9-5).

The PFL New York Presented by Arkham main card, the first Professional Fighters League event at UBS Arena, will air live on ESPN in the U.S. beginning at 7:00 pm EST. The preliminary portion can be seen on the ESPN App. Pre-sale tickets for the event are available now at pfl.info/ny with general sale tickets available from 10:00am ET Wednesday, May 27 also via pfl.info/ny. Additional bouts will be announced shortly.

The king of the 155 lbs division and the PFL pound-for-pound #1, Usman Nurmagomedov, carries his namesake’s legacy every time he enters the cage. 21 fights, 21 wins, an unstoppable champion with an aura of MMA royalty felt by all, Usman has set a standard on the canvas that no other fighter has managed to meet. Enter Archie Colgan, the undefeated collegiate wrestler turned mixed martial artist who has arguably never lost a round in the sport. He’s methodical, well-rounded, dangerous, and the biggest threat to the reigning Nurmagomedov.

In Ditcheva’s last outing against Sumiko Inaba last July, she fought through a broken hand for the win. Then, whilst preparing to fight Kielholtz in February, disaster struck again as she broke her other hand. Now fully healed, she’s honouring her commitment to “Miss Dynamite” as she looks to cement her path to the title and remind everyone she’s the most dangerous woman in MMA. Standing in her way is Kielholtz, a Dutch kickboxing sensation who honed her craft in Amsterdam, which paired with a black belt in Judo makes her a formidable foe with intentions to disrupt the division.

“PFL New York will be the culmination of three consecutive main event World Title fights, and on July 31, the world will see elite MMA at its finest. In one corner you have the Lightweight Champion, Usman Nurmagomedov, who has been a class above every man to stand opposite him. Some crumble to his aura, some to his skills, but either way his ability is undeniable. And now we have a challenger everyone says could be the kryptonite, Archie Colgan, an NCAA Division I wrestler who many believe is yet to lose a round. Does a legacy continue, or a legacy start? We’ll find out, and I can’t wait,” said PFL CEO John Martin.

“Then we also have the return of Dakota Ditcheva, and where better to bring one of the faces of PFL than New York. 12 finishes in 15 fights is an astounding knockout rate for her weight class, and she’s must-see TV every time she steps in the cage. But she won’t have it easy in her return, Kielholtz has world championship level kickboxing and a black belt in Judo, meaning high risk for Dakota, and an opportunity to disrupt for Denise.”

McGregor (22-6, fighting out of Dublin, Ireland) returns to action for the first time in five years looking for a vintage performance. A devastating striker, he holds thrilling KO wins against Eddie Alvarez, Jose Aldo and Donald Cerrone. McGregor plans to remind fans why he is one of the greatest fighters ever by securing a second victory over Holloway.

Holloway (27-9, fighting out of Waianae, Hawaii) intends to spoil McGregor’s return with a highlight-reel finish. A former BMF titleholder, he has earned memorable wins against Justin Gaethje, Chan Sung Jung and Brian Ortega. Holloway now looks to even the score by stopping McGregor in emphatic fashion.
Saint Denis (17-3 1NC, fighting out of Paris, France) steps back in the Octagon following an impressive TKO win against Dan Hooker in February.  Currently riding a four-fight win streak, he also holds notable victories over Beneil Dariush, Mauricio Ruffy and Matt Frevola. Saint Denis now plans to finish Pimblett and stake his claim for a title shot.
Pimblett (23-4, fighting out of Liverpool, Merseyside, England) is coming off his Fight of the Year candidate against Justin Gaethje in January. A relentless competitor, he has delivered exciting victories over Michael Chandler, King Green and Tony Ferguson. Pimblett aims to halt Saint Denis’ momentum to crack the lightweight Top 5.
Additional bouts on the card include:

  • Which Current Long-Serving UFC Champions Haven’t Yet Defended Their Undisputed Championship?

Which Current Long-Serving UFC Champions Haven’t Yet Defended Their Undisputed Championship?

Which Current Long-Serving UFC Champions Haven’t Yet Defended Their Undisputed Championship?

Picture Tom Aspinall seeing the notification. Alex Pereira vs. Cyril Gane — interim heavyweight title, on the biggest card of the year at UFC Freedom 250, at the White House no less. His division. His belt. Another interim champion being manufactured while he sits at home waiting for medical clearance on a double eye surgery he needed because Gane accidentally put two fingers in his face in Abu Dhabi.

The UFC currently has no fewer than 12 champions. Only two of them have defended their straps: Alexander Volkanovski beating Diego Lopes on home turf in Sydney back in February, and Valentina Shevchenko defending against Manon Fiorot and Zhang Weili last year. That’s the state of the UFC in April 2026 — a collision of emergency surgery, retirement phone calls, personal crises no training camp could prepare for, and a heavyweight title picture so cursed it borders on mythology.

The three champions who’ve been sitting longest without a defense — Harrison, Aspinall, and Topuria — each have a completely different story. None of them are simple.

Ilia Topuria: Champion Since June 28th, 2025

Here’s the political reality of Ilia Topuria’s entire lightweight reign: it was built on a fight that never happened. He vacated the featherweight gold in February 2025 with lightweight king Islam Makhachev locked in his sights — the dream unification of the two most naturally gifted champions in the sport. Then the Dagestani vacated his title as well, jumping to welterweight. Dream fight, gone. Was he avoiding El Matador? Or simply chasing the greatness that coach and confidant Khabib Nurmagomedov achieved?

Topuria took what was available: Charles Oliveira for the vacant 155-pound belt at UFC 317 last June, knocking out “Do Bronx” in vicious fashion and becoming a two-division champion in the process. Then Topuria vanished. No fights in the nine months since.

In November 2025, he announced he wouldn’t compete in Q1 of 2026 due to personal issues, later clarifying that serious family matters and false stories circulating about his private life made genuine fight preparation impossible. The UFC responded by booking Justin Gaethje vs. Paddy Pimblett for an interim lightweight title at UFC 324 on January 25th, and it was the American veteran who was dominant, picking up a wide unanimous decision win and snapping his brash British opponent’s nine-fight win streak.

Now, however, Topuria’s prolonged absence is set to come to an end, and it does so on a blockbuster card on the White House lawn. UFC Freedom 250, June 14th, headlined by the crunch unification fight between Topuria and Gaethje, and online betting sites make El Matador the man to beat. The latest UFC lines Bovada currently position the Georgia-born Spaniard as a mighty -585 favorite to finally defend the gold. Will he live up to the billing? Or will his time out of the Octagon prove to be his undoing?

Tom Aspinall: Champion Since June 21st, 2025

69 seconds. That’s how long it took Tom Aspinall to stop Sergei Pavlovich in November 2023 and announce himself as the most dangerous heavyweight on the planet. Interim champion. Then nothing for nineteen months — the longest interim title reign in UFC history — while Jon Jones played chess with the matchmakers, negotiated endlessly, and ultimately refused to fight the mandatory challenger not by losing or being stripped, but by phoning the UFC on June 21 of last year to announce his impromptu retirement.

Aspinall was elevated to undisputed champion by announcement. No unification fight. No octagon moment. A press release coronation for a man who’d done nothing but everything right.

His first actual defense was at UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi last October against the same Ciryl Gane set to fight at the White House. He was competitive. Gane was sharp. Then, at 4:35 of the opening round, Gane’s fingers went clean into Aspinall’s eyes. Both of them. Aspinall told the cageside doctor, “I can’t see.” After a five-minute timeout, referee Jason Herzog called the fight off. No-contest. The first UFC title fight to ever end by accidental foul.

Double eye surgery followed. The heavyweight title — Aspinall’s by every legitimate measure — is now the centerpiece of a division building around him while he recovers. Alex Pereira will move up in weight to fight Gane for the interim title at UFC Freedom 250, with the Brazilian aiming to become the first three-weight champion in history. Aspinall will likely fight the winner, whoever that may be, later this year.

Kayla Harrison: Champion Since June 7th, 2025

On January 14, 2026, Kayla Harrison posted a video wearing a neck brace and hospital garb, one day after surgery to repair two herniated discs. She was crying. She apologized to fans. She apologized to Amanda Nunes. “I was really eager for this matchup,” she said, voice breaking. Ten days before UFC 324. Ten days before the biggest fight in women’s MMA history — the greatest female fighter of all time, who came out of retirement specifically to fight Harrison, was waiting at the other end. Harrison pulled out of her coronation moment. The kind that happens once.

Two Olympic judo gold medals. Two PFL championships. Signed by UFC in January 2024. She debuted at UFC 300 with a second-round rear-naked choke of Holly Holm — a living legend, finished — then beat Ketlen Vieira by unanimous decision at UFC 307 in October. When she stepped into the co-main event of UFC 316 on June 7, 2025, in Newark and submitted Julianna Peña with a kimura at 4:55 of Round 2, she became the seventh undisputed women’s bantamweight champion in UFC history — and the first fighter ever to hold Olympic gold and a UFC title.

The UFC didn’t strip her. They didn’t create an interim belt. That decision tells you exactly how badly they want Harrison vs. Nunes — it’s too big, too rare, too culturally significant to dilute with a placeholder. But Nunes isn’t getting younger, and patience isn’t infinite.

Will the fight actually get made before the window slams shut permanently? Harrison appeared on a UFC Paramount+ preview show on April 25th and delivered the line everyone needed: “Your girl’s back, baby.” No confirmed date. No official opponent. Just a champion in recovery, declaring herself ready. The clock is now ticking — and every week that passes without a fight date is a week where the greatest possible version of this matchup edges slightly further away.

  • Mark Shapiro: Rousey vs. Carano Was More Of A Stunt Than A Meaningful Event

Mark Shapiro: Rousey vs. Carano Was More Of A Stunt Than A Meaningful Event

The biggest women’s fight in MMA history ended in 17 seconds, but TKO’s President doesn’t feel it was meaningful.

Two of the biggest names in women’s MMA clashed on May 16 at the Intuit Dome on Netflix for the MMA clash between Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano. At the end of the night, Rousey was victorious with their signature armbar finish.

While speaking at the JP Morgan Global Technology and Media Conference, TKO President Mark Shapiro was asked about it and explained why he chose to stay away from it rather than invest into the fight.

“It was pitched to us and we did turn it down. That’s to take nothing away from Netflix. They are a great partner and clearly they know what they are doing across the board. They’re in the big event business. They want big spectacle events, and they saw that this is a big spectacle event. We’re in the true MMA business on a meaningful and consistent basis. When we looked at this potential match-up, keep in mind there is a real art and skill to match-making. When you ask Hunter Campbell and Dana White what they think of that matchup prior to it happening, the answer was, ‘That fight will be over in 20 seconds.’ They were off by a few seconds. I don’t think a fight like that, just the way it played out, is really good for MMA. Especially because it’s Netflix and they have an incredible global audience. For them to go to that fight and think that’s what MMA is, I don’t think is good for the sport long-term. We saw it that way and decided to pass on it. Taking nothing away from the legend of Ronda Rousey and the win she got. I guarantee incredible viewership numbers. For us, it was more of a stunt than a meaningful MMA event,” he said.

Rousey has stated that this was her way of rewriting the ending to her legendary MMA career and she did just that on Saturday, May 16 against Carano in the biggest women’s MMA fight of all time.
