Mugshot Photos: Former WCW Star Evan Karagias Arrested, Details On Court Date & Charges

Former WCW star Evan Karagias has been arrested in Belmont, North Carolina, which is about 15 minutes from where he lives in Gastonia, NC.

Karagias was arrested by Belmont Police around 1am on Wednesday, November 1st, according to Gaston County Sheriff’s Office records. He was charged with one count of misdemeanor simple assault and one count of class 2 misdemeanor injury to personal property.

We will have additional details shortly but Karagias was released from jail after posting a $25,000 secured bond, which would have ran him $2,500 with a local bondsman. Records show that Karagias was booked into the Gaston County Jail at 1:36am on Wednesday, and then he bonded out at 2:48am.

Karagias is listed as pre-trial in jail records, but court dockets have him scheduled to be in court room 002A at the Gaston County Court House on the morning of Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024.

The simple assault charge in North Carolina carries probation time or up to 30 days of incarceration if you have no past convictions, but if you do have a prior conviction, the charge carries up to 60 days of incarceration and a fine of up to $1,000. Other potential penalties for simple assault convictions include supervised or unsupervised probation, community service, alcohol monitoring, drug testing and random urinalysis, and anger management treatment, among others.

The injury to personal property charge is a class 2 misdemeanor, but if the damage is in excess of $200.00, then the charge is upgraded to a class 1 misdemeanor. The class 2 charge carries up to 60 days in jail, while the class 1 charge carries a maximum of 120 days in jail.

Karagias, a former WCW Cruiserweight & Hardcore Champion, worked for WCW from 1997 to 2001, and is most known for being in the 3 Count boy band stable with Shane Helms and Shannon Moore. Karagias had his contract picked up by WWE when they bought WCW in 2001, and he was then sent to work the Heartland Wrestling Association developmental territory for WWE. He suffered a severe concussion and was on the shelf for 8-9 months, then released at the end of 2001.

Karagias, who did a good amount of acting, would go on to work the indies until eventually retiring in 2010.
