This week on Friday’s AEW Rampage, CM Punk made his way to the ring for an emotional promo where he announced an injury to his leg/foot. He will miss some time and requires surgery but promised to be back. He will hold onto the title and will face an interim champion at a later date.
According to a report by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, the fact that Punk actually needed surgery for his injury was not even realized until Friday afternoon.
We are told there is no definitive word yet on how long CM Punk will be out after he has surgery on his foot. AEW was aware he hurt himself after the six man tag on Wednesday but didn’t get confirmation surgery would be required until Friday afternoon, a short time before last night’s broadcast.

Of course this would lead to a chaotic scene backstage at AEW Rampage this week and we saw Chris Jericho being unsure on commentary about what was happening regarding the AEW World Title.
