Vince McMahon Shows His Hypocrisy On RAW After Burying AEW’s Product As Blood & Guts Wrestling To Investors

On last night’s episode of WWE Monday Night RAW we saw Brock Lesnar brutally attack Seth Rollins, hitting him with multiple F5’s onto a steel chair and the ring post. Seth was stretchered out and loaded up into an ambulance but this didn’t stop Lesnar from again assaulting Rollins, which resulted in Seth violently coughing up blood.

This was an interesting segment to say the least, and it was discussed on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer said that it was “amazing” seeing how Vince had literally just buried AEW’s product to potential advertisers because of their use of “blood and guts,” and then just days later on RAW you see Seth Rollins spitting up blood from his guts.

“The idea was that he was coughing up blood which is amazing, because what did Vince McMahon say Thursday morning?”

Then show co-host Bryan Alvarez points out that this was a spot that involved Seth Rollins biting a blood packet to simulate the effect that he was bleeding internally. Meltzer chimes in and asks, “what about the Kevin Owens’ headbutt when Vince pre-sawed his own forehead?” He then went on to explain why Vince McMahon is a hypocrite, and talks about his move last week to investors where he buried AEW for their blood and guts violence.

“He’s a hypocrite. I mean the whole thing is that he — I guess some people would call it brilliant — but, I guess the idea is that he’s trying to go out there and get the Turner people all squeamish right away and start ‘You can’t do this and you can’t do that’ while Vince will, in fact, do that because he knows from experience during the last wrestling war when the Turner people held back Eric and he could do stuff [WCW] couldn’t and [WWE] won.”

“That isn’t the reason they won, but that is what happened. So I think [McMahon] is doing the same thing and then to go in there and go, ‘You sponsors you know you don’t want to sponsor these guys because they’re gonna be doing blood and guts’ and they’re doing the same thing.”

It was also mentioned that even though Seth Rollins coughing up blood last night was fake, it was even more disturbing than what we have seen from AEW. They pointed out that since Dustin Rhodes just bladed his forehead at Double Or Nothing, people were able to see where he was bleeding from and knew the injury. But, with Rollins coughing up blood, it was implied that the injury was internal and far more serious.

We will have to wait and see exactly how WWE’s product changes now that Heyman and Bischoff are in charge of RAW and SmackDown Live, but if the last few weeks are any indication it looks like we can expect a more edgy product from here out.
