Original Plans For Ronda Rousey Vs. Becky Lynch At Last Year’s Survivor Series PPV

Originally a Champion vs. Champion match between Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch was booked for the 2018 WWE Survivor Series PPV.

Unfortunately the match had to be changed last minute when Becky Lynch sustained a “broken face” which forced her to be taken out after being on the wrong end of a right hand from Nia Jax. The injuries to Lynch instead caused WWE to place Charlotte Flair into the match in her place, putting off the highly anticipated Rousey/Lynch matchup until a later date.

On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the original planned match between Rousey and Lynch that was supposed to take place at Survivor Series. He notes that even though WWE had to change up the participants of the match, that the company kept the finish the same.

Regarding the plans for Rousey vs. Lynch at Survivor Series, Meltzer said:

“By the way, that finish at Survivor Series the Ronda Rousey/ Charlotte Flair finish where Charlotte whacked her with a cane and all that. That was the Becky Lynch finish.”

“Ronda Rousey was not going to submit Becky Lynch in that match. Becky Lynch was gonna beat the hell out of her with a kendo stick and get DQ’ed. So that’s where that came from.”
