NXT Recap: Episode 482

Last week on NXT: We learned Punishment Martinez’ dad would fight six men at the same time while Punishment lost to Matt Riddle. Raul Mendoza and Humberto Carilla wrestled their asses off. I went to an NXT Live show and Humberto was a no name going in but won the crowd over when his match ended. A standing ovation and “Humberto” chants! Dakota Kai lost to Shayna Baszler and then got injured in Green Bay this weekend. Tommaso Ciampa got Johnny Gargano and Aleister Black to agree to fight each other in a cage.

Cold Open

We get some guy narrating what will happen tonight. It’s not like 205 Live but similar. I love that this is done on some of WWE’s shows. Just something to prepare for the night.

EC3 vs. Bobby Fish

  • I really like the added screaming to The Undisputed Era’s thee song. It’s funny that The Undisputed Era all do a taunt but it’s just so everyone in the crowd can say “ADAM COLE BAYBAY”
  • Adam Cole grabs the mic and talks trash about EC3 and how Undisputed Era are at the center of the NXT universe.
  • Adam Cole makes a promise that the four of them will be draped in gold in 2019.
  • EC3 doesn’t fit in NXT. His gimmick reminds me a lot of Elias’. Something just doesn’t gel while in NXT. Once EC3 is on the main roster he will fit more like a square peg in a square hole as opposed to the round ass hole that NXT is.
  • EC3 has a weak knee and has it taped up. Bobby Fish has a weak knee and a brace on it.
  • EC3 can fight all he wants but he has no back up and Bobby Fish has the whole ass Undisputed Era with him.
  • The match is built around Bobby attacking EC3’s leg and EC3 overpowering Bobby whilst fighting through the pain.
  • Bobby goes to run the ropes but hits the ropes too low and messes up his head and neck a bit. The boys recover nicely where the spot doesn’t come off as blown.
  • EC3 gets a quick roll up pin after that and is attacked after the match by Undisputed Era.
  • Heavy Machinery come to make the save and all eyes on Otis.
  •

And I’m Like… This is a nice little start to a feud. Heavy Machinery will give EC3 something to play off of and the matches look to be really fun. Bobby and EC3 did a good job but this match wasn’t anything special. Against EC3 seems like a fish out of water in NXT, let’s hope that stigma doesn’t stick around on the main roster.

Dakota Kai and Io Shirai say that they don’t like Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir and they want a match next week.

The Mighty vs. Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch

  •  Two weeks in a row that the tag match isn’t on the YouTubes.
  • This match starts with a brawl and all four men are outside of the ring within the first minute.
  • The match slows down a bit, but not much with Nick Miller and Oney Lorcan squaring off in the ring.
  • The Mighty take control rather quickly in a match that is wrestled at a very fast pace.
  • The Mighty have a horrible double team move that consists of Miller powerbombing Thorne while Shane superpelxes Lorcan. Shane is almost taken out of the match after the impact of the powerbomb from his own teammate.
  • This matches pace has not slowed down one bit and all four of these guys are working their hearts out.
  • This match is fast and furious and really good. It ends just as fast as it began though with Oney and Lorcan winning the match.

And I’m Like… If tag team wrestling is your jam, then NXT is the show to watch. I am upset there is no YouTube of this because this was fast and crisp and an overall great match which seems to be par for the course for NXT.

Gargano vs. Black in a cage is next week.

No idea what this gimmick is.

Shayna Baszler is asked about the number one contender match that is happening soon. Shayna is not worried. Jessamyn and Marina laugh at Dakota Kai and Io Shirai’s challenge.

Lacey Evans qualified at a live event to join Bianca Belair to determine the next number one contender.

Mia Yim vs. Reina Gonzalez

  • Mia’s entrance with her theme song gives the girl a PRESENCE!!
  • I think Reina is a cowgirl? She is from Texas and swings a cowbell.. so Female Stan Hanson.
  • Reina towers over Mia and right off the bat you can tell Yim is in for a fight.
  • Something Mia does really well is play the badass but also the underdog. She is a great asset to NXT.
  • Reina legit cut some jeans into assless chaps for her gear. Wild.
  • Gonzalez also wears cowboy boots.
  • Mia hits a flurry of strikes and an Eat Defeat for a hard fought win.

And I’m Like… That match wasn’t the best. It wasn’t much of Mia’s fault but Reina just seems a bit clunky. Her gear is out of this world though. Something I’ve never saw before. This was just to get Mia to a fatal four way match so it doesn’t really seem like a waste. Gotta get those reps in.

Aleister Black cuts a promo in a smoke filled room about his match against Johnny Gargano. Baldur tells Johnny that he will fade to black.

North American Championship

Tyler Breeze vs. Ricochet (c)

  • Ricochet comes out first because his opponent is a mystery person.
  • At the live event Ricochet went up to my cousin and let him hold the North American championship. It was special moment and made me a bigger fan of Ricochet.
  • Commentary puts over how amazing Tyler Breeze is and how important he was to NXT. It’s really great to hear and feel this.
  • “Tyler’s gorgeous/Ricochet” dueling chants to start the match.
  • Ricochet out wrestles Tyler who has to powder to the outside to regain composure.
  • Tyler is really wrestling a heel style and is trying to build crowd sympathy for Ricochet. The crowd is more trying to get witty chants over instead.
  • Ricochet is able to hit a flurry of moves and finishes the sequence with a standing shooting star press for two.
  • The match ends it’s second act with Breeze and Ricochet going blow for blow and knocking each other down with cross body blocks.
  • Both men reverse countless suplexes only for Breeze to hit a superkick and poisoned rana for a two count. Crowd and myself are loving this.
  • Breeze tries to strike the hell out of Ricochet until Ricochet hit a Cradle Shock and got the win.

And I’m Like… This was tremendous. I really enjoyed having Tyler Breeze back and being able to re appreciate his talents. It’s a hard pill to swallow but when people get called up to the main roster they aren’t able to connect with the crowd as much as they did on NXT. Breeze was able to recapture that magic and I think that was wonderful.
