When Will It Be Chyna’s Turn?

Over this past weekend, WWE put out a statement that surprised a lot of fans, Hulk Hogan would be reinstated into the WWE Hall of Fame after having a three-year suspension.

WWE’s statement:

After a three-year suspension, Hulk Hogan has been reinstated into the WWE Hall of Fame. This second chance follows Hogan’s numerous public apologies and volunteering to work with young people, where he is helping them learn from his mistake. These efforts led to a recent induction into the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Alumni Hall of Fame.

Should Hulk Hogan be Reinstated?

This news was met with mixed reviews by fans. Some were surprised, some excited, but there was another category of fans who started throwing their own opinions around on Twitter. The third group of fans believed that there were others who deserved to be inducted into the Hall of Fame before Hogan should be allowed to be reinstated. The name that continued to stand on and seemed to be on everyone’s minds instead of Hogan was Chyna.

Why Chyna?

Chyna brought forth a different type of woman, in the terms of WWE entertainment. She was a woman who was willing to wrestle men, she was more interested in the athleticism than being a Diva. She paved the way for WWE woman superstars. However, Chyna has never been in the WWE Hall of Fame. It has always been stated that she is not in the Hall of Fame due to the infamous sex tape that was released of her and Sean “X-Pac” Waltman.

What is the difference?

Hogan was suspended from the WWE Hall of Fame due to racial slurs and other crude behavior that took place a couple of years ago but has now been reinstated. Chyna has yet to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on the ground of her sex tape. Both are personal matters not having to do with their careers, even though they were both faces of the company. This is causing fans to ask a couple of questions: What is the difference? Does this at the end of the day come down to the matter of sexism? Is society still seeing men and women athletes differently?

When it comes down to it however, the real question that everyone is asking is this: Does the sports entertainment industry continue to have different standards for men and women? Right now, it appears that it still does.
