Even though WWE has made two hour pre shows a formality, the big element they had gotten rid of once Triple HHH took over creative was kickoff matches. But at Madison Square Garden for Saturday Night’s Main Event, they are adding a kickoff match involving two very important talent for two different companies.
Starting at 7:30 pm est., there will be The Countdown, a pre show to Saturday Night’s Main Event and the one match they are putting on the kickoff show is Triple AAA’s own Laredo Kid versus WWE Intercontinental Champion Trick Williams.

Trick Williams has taken the main roster by storm since being called up from NXT at the beginning of 2026. Williams is seen by many as one of the future main event players for the company. That also includes wrestlers like Bron Breakker, Jevon Evans and Oba Femi. Williams won the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 42 by beating Sami Zayn. Williams has been paired up with famous artist Lil Yachty which has helped Williams cross over to more than just the WWE audience.
Laredo Kid was the Triple AAA World Crusierweight Champion for 539 days. Laredo Kid just lost the title to WWE star Rey Fénix at Noche de Los Grandes back on May 30th. This is a rarity for a Triple AAA wrestler to have a singles match on a show like this. Usually WWE has used them at the Royal Rumble and mostly on NXT.
