Mercedes Moné Explains Her Recent AEW Absence

The CEO of AEW Mercedes Moné finally made her AEW return on the June 3rd episode of Dynamite as the wildcard in the Owen Hart Tournament. Moné was gone from AEW for five months which led to many people speculating in that time that her status in wrestling and the comynpny itself but Moné cleared the air on her absence.

The CEO published a new edition of the Moné Mag this past week and in it, she cleared the air about all of the rumors on why she hadn’t been on AEW TV in the first 5 months of 2026.

I’m back and I feel better than ever. Almost 6 months away. I’ve never had a break that long that wasn’t due to injury and after 16 years it was the first time I got to truly relax and have no worries. But one thing I realized during that time away? I missed wrestling so much. Especially that AEW.While I was gone I saw all the rumors.‘Oh she’s pregnant.’ ‘Oh contract issues.’‘Oh she’s leaving.’‘Oh this.’‘Oh that.’Oh…NOTHING. Can I enjoy my vacation in peace? Can a woman have a period and be bloated? Can I enjoy my time off without speculation and rumors? One thing I also learned is there’s nobody more impatient than wrestling fans. Y’all are the type of people who look up the ending of a movie before finishing it. You love not being surprised. You love not being present and fully in the moment because you’re so caught up in the fantasy.”

In those 5 months off AEW TV, Moné dropped all of her titles that she won on the independent scene and in CMLL. Moné also attended the premiere for The Mandalorian and Grogu after having appeared in seasons 2 and 3 of the Disney Plus show The Mandalorian. The CEO defeated Alex Windsor in the first round of the Owen Hart Tournament and will now face Hazuki in the semifinals.

The Young Bucks Provide Update on Adam Cole

While Being the Elite is not what it was in the 2010s, it actually provided some interesting news on a former member of The Elite. During a livestream on Being the Elite, The Young Bucks talked about how recovery has been going for Adam Cole.

During the Q&A, a fan asked The Young Bucks about if Adam Cole will ever wrestle again. The Bucks mentioned that Cole is progressing one step at a time, taking it day by day and showing signs of improvement. But, they told fans to continue to keep Cole in their thoughts and prayers. The Bucks concluded their response by saying that Cole is the nicest person they have met in the wrestling business.

Adam Cole has been out of action since All In last year due to concussions.  Cole was forced to relinquish the TNT title on AEW’s biggest show of the year. It truly was one of the more emotional moments in AEW history. Since that point, Tony Khan has not stated if he believes if Cole will ever wrestle again.

You can watch the full episode of Being the Elite below.

Like The Young Bucks said, everyone at Bodyslam wishes all the best to Adam Cole on his recovery.

  • Exclusive: GHC Heavyweight Champion Shane Haste On A Potential Return To WWE, NJPW, TNA, And AEW

Exclusive: GHC Heavyweight Champion Shane Haste On A Potential Return To WWE, NJPW, TNA, And AEW

Current Pro Wrestling NOAH GHC Heavyweight Champion Shane Haste reflects on the possibility of a potential WWE return.

Former WWE Superstar Shane Haste, known as Shane Thorne and Slapjack during his time with the company, recently spoke with Bodyslam.net‘s Wombeezy for an exclusive interview. During the discussion, the topic of a potential WWE return was brought up, to which Haste appears to be keeping the door open for a potential return one day, saying “I’d never say never again..”

Um, so yeah, I’d never say never again to us being there, but, uh, that’s, it’s all up to, you know, in like we, as wrestlers, some wrestlers do get to pick where they get to go and whatnot, but you just see like a lot of things with like fans being like, they should go to AEW, they should go to TNA.

I’m like, it’s not our choice. Like 90% of the time, it’s not up to us wrestlers to be like, yeah. Hey Tony, give me, yeah, I’ll go here. Give me what I want. You know what I mean? We don’t get that choice. We just got to go where the work is. Um, I’m very fortunate that my work has now led me back to NOAH and to the GHC title.

So you just never know when things are going to turn around and whatnot, but I would never say never to going back to, uh, New Japan again. I mean, TMDK is there. Um, I’d love to go back and be with the boys. I’d love the boys there to be with us in NOAH as well. Um, yeah, I’d go back to, I’d do TNA. I’d do AEW again for sure. I go back to WWE. I’m open to it. You know what I mean?

Shane Haste originally signed with WWE back in 2016 along with his tag team partner Mikey Nicholls. The two debuted on the NXT brand as part of the tag team TM-61. They competed in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, making it to the finals in 2016 before an injury sidelined them.

Haste would then transition into singles competition under the ring name Shane Thorne, before briefly reforming TM-61 until his tag partner Mikey Nicholls, who was going by the ring name Nick Miller, would leave WWE in 2019. This would eventually lead to a main roster call up for Haste early in 2020.

In August of 2020, Haste would be repacked as the hockey mask wearing Slapjack as part of the Retribution stable, which also  consisted of Mustafa Ali, T-Bar (Dominik Dijakovic), and Mace (Mason Madden). The stable faced blowback from networks as it was viewed as being a “terrorist group,” which would lead to changes creatively before eventually quietly being disbanded.

Haste would then be kept off WWE programming before officially being released from his contract on November 18th, 2021.

You can watch the entire interview with GHC Heavyweight Champion Shane Haste below.

  • MJF Suffers Injury on Last Week’s AEW Dynamite

MJF Suffers Injury on Last Week’s AEW Dynamite

Current AEW World Champion MJF has reportedly been injured on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite. He wrestled in a No Count Outs match against RUSH for the AEW Championship on Wednesday.

Beyond Wrestling announced that MJF has pulled out of his scheduled match against Bobby Orlando. They also announced that he has hyperextended his knee and cannot travel or compete in his scheduled bout.

Fortunately though, the injury doesn’t seem to be worst case scenario. Bryan Alvarez reported that while the injury is completely legitimate and not storyline based, there is belief backstage that the injury is minor and that he won’t miss a lot of time.

Beyond Wrestling released the following statement:

”Unfortunately MJF hyperextended his knee during his match last night & is not medically cleared to travel or compete. He will not be in Cranston tomorrow night but assured me that he will wrestle on Beyond Wrestling as soon as his schedule allows. He wish him a speedy recovery”

We will keep you updated here at Bodyslam.net on any news about MJF’s injury

  • Thekla further addressed STARDOM ahead of Forbidden Door

Thekla further addressed STARDOM ahead of Forbidden Door

Thekla has made waves this past week declaring death to the promotion, Stardom, and threatening it’s president Taro Okada. Yesterday, while signing at the HighSpots virtual table she had this to say:

“Well, I mean, they’re all dumb b*tches obviously, and I think I’m biting the hand that used to feed me also. But at the same time, it’s like, yeah, yeah, f*ck that. They know. I’ve told it straight to their face that I don’t like a lot of the sh*t they do so, Taro Okada, he’s still gonna get his beating sooner or f*cking later. Probably sooner since we’ve got Forbidden Door coming up… This time, I may have f*cked it up a little bit because all of Japan is tweeting about me. I just looked at a message and I saw that AEW might be apologizing to STARDOM for the things I done did but, f*ck em. I’m gonna go over there and kick every single person’s ass who dares to talk sh*t back at me…”

What do you think? Who do you want to see face Thekla at Forbidden Door?
