Baron Corbin: I Went Into NXT With No Expectations And They Let Me Do My Thing, I’m Excited To Go To Work Every Day Again

Baron Corbin realized he belonged in the WWE after his second run in NXT.

It has been a rollercoaster ride for the last couple of years for Baron Corbin. He signed with the WWE in 2012 under a developmental deal and during his time on the main roster, Corbin won the United States Championship, won the King of the Ring tournament, and the Money in the Bank briefcase.

Last May, Corbin decided to go back down to NXT and revive his career after a lackluster run left him wondering if he belonged in the WWE.

Corbin would go on to battle the best of the best and the self-proclaimed next generation for the WWE before winning the Dusty Rhodes Classic with Bron Breakker before the two won the NXT World Tag Team Championships in a match against Tony D’Angelo and Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo this past February.

In a conversation on WWE’s The Bump, Corbin was asked about his current run in NXT and how it feels to be a champion again in the WWE.

“It feels good. I can’t lie about that. It feels amazing to have this and walk around with this title and be proud of that. I went into NXT with no expectations, and Shawn [Michaels] and Baldo [Matt Bloom] and [writer/producer Johnny] Russo, they all grabbed ahold of me, and they’re like, ‘Let’s let you do your thing.’ They have kind of let me really come into my own, and it’s made it exciting for me to go to work every day again. It’s made me excited to go in the gym and put in the extra work. Then I got a tag partner. People don’t know, my contract was running up at the end of the year, and it’s kind of one of those things, it’s a question of like, ‘What am I doing? Do I need to go and find myself?’ Or whatever. NXT was going so well, and the opportunity to work with him, I was like, man, this is where I belong. This is how we get the life back to what I’m doing,” Corbin said.

Corbin has recently teased that he and Breakker could make a run for the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championships that are being defended in a multi-team ladder match at WrestleMania 40.
