Update on Drew McIntyre’s WWE Contract Status

Drew McIntyre’s contract status continues to be a hot topic of conversation.

It’s no secret that former WWE Champion, Drew McIntyre’s deal with WWE expires this coming April following ‘WrestleMania 40.’

However, rumors swirled following this week’s ‘Monday Night RAW,’ when the now-injured CM Punk told ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ that he’s coming directly for him once he returns from his reported 4-6 months hiatus following suffering a torn triceps during this past weekend’s Men’s Royal Rumble Match.

Many pondered why Punk would publicly call out McIntyre when the Chicago-native isn’t due to be back in-action until ‘SummerSlam’ at the earliest, knowing McIntyre has yet to re-up with the company, perhaps hinting at McIntyre possibly signing a new deal.

In an update provided by Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, McIntyre still hasn’t signed any sort of extension with WWE.

“I would say September is a reasonable [time period for Punk’s] return, which is really interesting because they set up the big angle with Drew McIntyre tonight to be his opponent when he returns. Drew McIntyre is not under contract past April and that has not changed.”

Drew McIntyre has been a staple of WWE programming for the past few months amidst a major heel turn. McIntyre came up short in his bid for gold when he lost to WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins, this past November at ‘Crown Jewel.’ McIntyre would then be part of the losing team in ‘War Games’ at ‘Survivor Series,’ before being in the final four of this past weekend’s Men’s Royal Rumble Match.
