AEW Vice President Of Live Events And Touring Leaving Company At End Of Year

Rafael Morffi, AEW Vice President Of Live Events And Touring, will be finishing up with the company at the end of 2023.

According to a report from Sean Ross Sapp via Fightful Select, Rafael Morffi, who has served as AEW’s VP of Live Events and Touring since the formation of the company, will be wrapping up his time with the company following AEW’s World’s End PPV event.

Morffi was responsible for setting up the live event tours, including booking the buildings, local marketing and other logistical responsibilities in regards to the running of the live events. According to PWInsider, Morffi has accepted a Senior Executive position with the Barclays Center in New York City, where he will book the venues sports and entertainment events. He will also work for the Owners of the Brooklyn Nets, whose home is the Barclays Center.

It was said that one of the reasons for Morffi leaving AEW, is that he will remain closer to his family who lives in New York City, as he will not be on the road constantly anymore. Additionally, it was noted that “it was basically seen as such an amazing offer, there was no way he could pass on the opportunity.”

Morffi was well liked and respected internally within AEW, and he will be missed by many.

There had been rumblings and rumors of another AEW backstage departure following the news of Kevin Sullivan parting ways with the company, and the news of Morffi’s departure had been discussed within the industry, but had yet to make it’s way backstage at recent AEW tapings.

Prior to working with AEW, Morffi spent years working for WWE as part of their Live Events team. Morffi also worked with the New York Cosmos MLS team, and the New York Mets MLB organization, before forming his own company Signature Move Productions in 2016.

Morffi also worked with TNA Wrestling, where he served as Senior Director of Live Events and Tommy Dreamer’s House of Hardcore in connection with his own company, Signature Move Productions.

Morffi was said to be a key internal team member for AEW, and was involved in all aspects of promotional and marketing efforts for their All In events at Wembley Stadium. His connections also helped AEW set the stage for them to run their Grand Slam events at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York.
