Cody Rhodes Addresses Sting’s Upcoming Retirement, Reveals He Was Offered A Match With Sting Prior To Leaving AEW

Cody Rhodes comments on Sting’s upcoming retirement from the ring.

Sting announced a few weeks back that he would be retiring from the ring at AEW Revolution 2024. The week following, Ric Flair would hop on board for the former WCW stars retirement tour.

One man very familiar with Sting is Cody Rhodes, who was present for Sting’s AEW debut, where “The Icon” made the save for “The American Nightmare” while he was being beaten down.

Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Cody commented on Sting’s upcoming retirement, noting that he was offered a match with Sting prior to his AEW exit.

“The last match I was offered in AEW was that match. It wasn’t confirmed or anything like that, but just the little I had to do with his debut there is a wonderful memory. I was a little Stinger. Maybe I’ll pull out a Stinger Splash in his honor. Seriously, cheers to a wonderful career,”

Sting is currently set for action at AEW Full Gear, when he teams with Adam Copeland and Darby Allin to take on the trio of TNT Champion Christian Cage, Nick Wayne and Luchsauras.
