Frankie Kazarian returned to IMPACT Wrestling at Hard to Kill back in January of this year and revealed that he had just signed a new, long-term contract with the company. Frankie was previously under contract with AEW.
Speaking with Jim Varsallone of the Miami Herald, Kazarian was asked to share his thoughts on Shelley being the IMPACT World Champion. Kazarian emphasized that he is proud of Shelley, and he’s happy to see him in this position.
“I’m so proud of that guy. I’ve known Alex Shelley since he was 20 years and he was just starting out. We’ve been through a lot together, and over the years, when you know somebody that well, you become close. So for him to het that opportunity and for him to now run with it, I think he’s doing an incredible job representing IMPACT Wrestling as our world champion. I’m so happy for him, man. I know he appreciates it. That guy loves this business. He eats, breathes and sleeps pro wrestling. He’s constantly working on his technique and sharing that technique with young men and women before every show. That’s one of those, sometimes when wrestling gets it right, they really get it right. Alex Shelley being put in this position and earning the right to be IMPACT Champion, I always say it warms my black heart. I’m proud of him, so happy for him, and it’s good to see good things happen to good people sometimes,” Kazarian said.

Alex Shelley became the IMPACT World Champion on June 9th at the LIVE Against All Odds event when he defeated Steve Maclin. This was Shelley’s first World Title run with TNA/IMPACT Wrestling. Alex is also a 3x TNA/IMPACT Wrestling Tag Team Champion with Chris Sabin as part of the Motor City Machine Guns.
Alex has successfully defended the title against Maclin in Australia for his contractual rematch, as well as Nick Aldis at the Slammiversary Pay Per View back in July.
Shelley is set to take on Brian Myers for the IMPACT World Title next week on the 8/24 IMPACTonAXSTV episode.
