Exclusive: Indy Star Macrae Martin Talks Being Inspired By Dirty Dango; Hopes Fresh Air vs Dirty Breeze Happens One Day

Indy sensation Macrae Martin has had an incredible amount of success in 2023. He currently holds the Seaway Valley Wrestling Championship, Courage Pro Next Gen Championship and Au Sommet de la Lutte Championship. He has made appearances for Ring of Honor, GCW, Limitless Wrestling, Beyond Wrestling, International Wrestling Syndicate and many others promotions.

Macrae Martin sat down for an exclusive interview with Bodyslam.net’s Lewis Carlan and one of the topics that came up was his Seaway Valley Wrestling Title defense against IMPACT Wrestling star Dirty Dango.

Martin made these comments on the match against Dirty Dango and why Dango is someone who inspired him:

It was incredible absolutely incredible.  He is someone who I looked up to not in the sense of our characters but in his reinvention. So as a dancer watching wrestling I pick up on all the little things. I’m like okay they’re not a real dancer, their technique is off but you know that’s the thing with dancing gimmicks is that we all kind of get grouped together when for me I’m a legit dancer, I can actually do it but the thing I respected with Dango, which is how I kind of felt in my earliest pre-pandemic stages of my career, was I starting to get kind of pigeonholed into a comedy character and I do love comedy wrestling and I do apply little bits of comedy here and there in my wrestling but it’s not the thing that drew me to wrestling. What drew me to wrestling was the combat. And you know seeing Dango, he got injured, he came back, he was still Fandango but he reinvented the character and it was like this new light that he had. He was like all right I did my schtick, I did all that, now I’m here to win belts, now I’m here to make my money and that’s kind of how I felt with when we came back from the pandemic. It’s like all right I need a new look, I can still do the Hotstepper character but I need to show that progression, I need to step up my game and it was him that really inspired me to do that and it helped me figure out how I can get the best of both worlds with a character and wrestler. Working with someone that you watched growing up, I can’t describe it like it was so cool and he was a great guy, down to Earth. He gave me advice planning the match, everything was awesome.

Macrae Martin teams with Junior Benito and they are known as Fresh Air. Dirty Dango just recently reformed a tag team with Tyler Breeze and they go by the name Dirty Breeze. Martin commented on how Fresh Air vs Dirty Breeze is a match he really wants:

I hope I get to work with him again maybe Fresh Air versus Dirty Dango and Tyler Breeze? I would love that match absolutely and also I’m a huge Tyler Breeze fan. I want that match more than anything.
