Trevor Murdoch On Potential NWA EmPowerrr 2: We Don’t Want To Rush And Throw A Shit Product Together

If you’re holding out hope for another NWA EmPowerrr event, you’re going to be waiting a while longer.

In August 2021, Mickie James, in conjunction with the NWA put together an all-women event that utilized talent from various promotions around the globe. Despite being well-received, the event did not return in 2022.

When asked why there wasn’t a follow-up, NWA President Billy Corgan said that there wasn’t enough free-agent talent available that could work at a televised PPV level. These comments, naturally, were not met kindly.

Speaking with NBC Sports Boston, Trevor Murdoch commented on a potential EmPowerrr 2 while also sharing his thoughts on Corgan’s remarks.

“I think we’ll see that event again. It was successful and it was a great event. I actually was at a table and watched the whole show from start to finish. I thought them ladies did a great job. Also, with that being said, I agree with Billy in the sense that we tend to become fans of people, and when we become fans of those people, we tend to put horse blinders on. We don’t see everything sometimes in the most clear light. At the time, when we were putting the show together for The Chase there wasn’t, and I’m going to get heat for it too, but at the time we couldn’t find the TV quality talent when it came to the ladies enough to produce a full PPV and for it to be as successful or as popular as the last one. We also didn’t want to go out and just throw a shit product together and say just because we did one we’re going to rush together and do another and disparage the reputation of the first EmPowerrr. … It’s important for the NWA to put out the best quality product. We’re not burying any of the ladies that are out there, we just at the time couldn’t find enough women to put together a show that held the same quality as last year,” he said.

Corgan has said that he plans on bringing EmPowerrr back and hopes to run a show in 2023.

Elsewhere during the interview, Murdoch shared a story in which he was arrested in Ireland while working for WWE. Click here to read more.
