Jonathan Gresham Requests Release From Ring Of Honor Following “Cussing Out” Tony Khan

Former Ring of Honor World Champion Jonathan Gresham has reportedly requested his release from his Ring Of Honor/AEW contract.

Last night at Death Before Dishonor, Jonathan Gresham would be unseated as Ring Of Honor World Champion by Claudio Castagnoli just weeks after a heel turn from Gresham. This brought an end to a reign that lasted eight months with seventeen successful title defenses.

Fightful Select now reports that Gresham requested his release from his contract prior to the event on Saturday night:

Fightful Select has learned that former ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham asked for his release Saturday ahead of the ROH Death Before Dishonor show that saw him lose the championship. We’re told that there was a lack of communication between the company and Gresham leading up to the weekend, and Gresham was said to have felt disrespected by this. Among other things, we learned that the lack of time for the world title match was a tipping point as well. We’re told that Gresham finally procured a meeting with Tony Khan before the show, he was said to have communicated the frustration that led to him “cussing out” Khan.

It looks like there were a multitude of reasons that Gresham made the decision to request his release from his contract. Time will tell if Tony Khan will look to work things out with Gresham or if he will simply grant the former world champion his release.
