Lio Rush Wasn’t A Fan Of His AEW Gimmick And Didn’t Choose It

Lio Rush speaks on his time in AEW.

Rush has not competed in AEW since December of last year, becoming a free agent in February. During his second run with the promotion, Lio teamed with Dante Martin while his brother Darius was out with an injury.

Speaking with Joey Karni of The Angle Podcast, Lio spoke about his time with AEW, admitting that the character he portrayed on television was not one he would have chosen for himself.

“It was a character or gimmick thrown on me that I would’ve never chosen myself and I had to work with that. I had to adapt and kind of figure out where I wanted the character to go because there weren’t a lot of pointers,”

Lio has stated in the past that there is no bad blood between he and AEW, and would like to work with them again in the future. Rush is currently side-lined with an injury from January of this year with no timetable for his return as of yet.
