AEW And WWE Women’s Divisions Have The Same Problem

Sometimes two companies mirror each other with booking in professional wrestling.

AEW have been criticised for their handling of the AEW women’s division over the years. Unfortunately, this criticism has been directed primarily at the in ring talent, despite their terrific performances. WWE’s division does not go without criticism however, despite WWE having their division stacked to the rafters with talent.

Dave Meltzer speculated on Twitter the reason to why crowds aren’t as hot for the women’s matches vs men’s in AEW:

Some do and some don’t. Depends on the match and its placement on the show. They run big matches early which makes later matches with less appeal suffer more, because of ratings pattern. Exact same thing happens with WWE TV.

Is Meltzer correct? It certainly appears so when looking at both companies history of booking their respective women’s divisions.
