WWE Had No Plans For RK-Bro To Last More Than A Month

On Monday night Raw, WWE will be celebrating 20 years of Randy Orton in the WWE.

Orton has been a main event star for WWE for almost all 20 of those years but as of late, he has become a staple of the RAW tag team division along with his tag team partner Riddle. RK-Bro has also gotten over massively with fans, as the oddball pairing turned best friends have won the RAW Tag Team Titles twice, holding them for a combined 191 days with a Unification Match scheduled for Wrestlemania Backlash with The Uso’s. However, it may come as a surprise to many that RK-Bro was not planned to last longer than a month. Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer confirmed on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that the pair were scheduled to break up after three weeks.

“I think they’re just great as a team. Obviously, it was something they fell into because it was never… People know this, but the idea was for them to team for three weeks and have Randy Orton turn on Matt Riddle. That was the idea.”

Of course, there would be a brief week in August where the pair appeared to be broken up as a team, as Orton would close out an episode of RAW planting Riddle with an RKO, but one week later Riddle saved Orton from an ambush and they reunited as a team. Meltzer would go on to mention his thoughts on the pair possibility splitting up now.

“Although, you know, at some point, it is bound to happen, because it’s WWE. And when you have a tag team, unless it’s The New Day or something like that, and even with The New Day, there’s always people who always want to break them up. Sometimes you have to fight to stay together. There’s always that thing of wanting to break up the teams.”

Hopefully WWE do not split the pairing up anytime soon as they have become one of the most exciting tag teams in the industry at present. Time will tell when WWE will decide to split the pairing up and if they can become the Unified Tag Team Champions at Wrestlemania Backlash.
