Was Samoa Joe Cleared To Wrestle For WWE Before His Release?

WWE shocked a lot of people when they released Samoa Joe yesterday. The former 2-time NXT Champion still seemed to be part of plans with the company as he was in the announce booth for WrestleMania, and many thought that after a year he was finally getting close to being cleared to return to the ring.

Joe suffered a concussion in February of last year while filming a commercial and was hoping to return to the ring. He had no intention of staying at the announce table, despite getting high marks for his work there. He had even been used for interviews, being featured on NXT TakeOver: Stand and Deliver as he did interviews with Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly.

Fightful Select has reported Joe had openly expressed a desire to return to the ring, but as recently as his release, the WWE still had yet to clear him.

Samoa Joe had expressed his desire to wrestle of late, but was not cleared by WWE.

Samoa Joe will be on his own to find a doctor to clear him, which he now has 90 days to do so before he can compete again. Now many fans will be left wondering if his lack of clearance played a factor in his release.
