Kurt Angle Says Vince McMahon Regrets Not Signing AJ Styles Sooner

AJ Styles found himself at one point the best wrestler never to work for the WWE until 2016, when The Phenomenal One finally arrived in the WWE as a surprise Royal Rumble entrant. While it originally looked to be that Styles would be used as a guy who would eventually put over guys on their way to the top, Styles wound up earning the trust of Vince McMahon and has become one of the WWE’s main event stars.

Kurt Angle has long known Styles’ value and talked about AJ on an episode of the Kurt Angle Show. On the episode, Angle revealed something he heard Vince tell Styles after his first WWE World Title win, telling Styles he regretted not trying to sign him sooner.

“You know Vince, I was told, Vince, when he met up with AJ after AJ won the World Title, Vince went to him and said, ‘I wish I would have hired you ten years ago,’ and that is that. That tells you exactly how Vince feels about AJ. AJ is a star. He is, you know, when he came in the WWE, at that particular time, he was the #1 top best wrestler in the world. The best performer. Just from a wrestling standpoint, he was the top guy.”

Styles has continued to prove his worth to the company, even if he had never found himself there until a few years ago. While it’s unknown where Styles would have been had they signed him years prior, Styles has proven he’s a top star for the company and even a future Hall of Famer.
