John Silver Reveals Brodie Lee Helped Him And Alex Reynolds Get Full Time AEW Contracts

There might have been no wrestler who had benefitted more from Brodie Lee’s arrival in AEW than John Silver.

John Silver and Alex Reynolds had been around AEW for quite some time, but it wasn’t until July that the duo signed full time AEW contracts. The duo got extra attention due to their antics on the Being the Elite YouTube show, where Silver had become a breakout star. While Reynolds and Silver added to the comedy as the Dark Order’s “Recruitment Specialists,” Silver’s dynamic with Brodie Lee in addition to his humor filled interactions with his fellow Dark Order members spawned memes and a “Johnny Hungiee” t-shirt. Silver talked to Sports Illustrated about his memories of Brodie Lee and revealed that Lee played a pivotal part in he and Reynolds getting their full time deals.

“He just went out of his way to help. I won’t forget that, or what he shared with me. Brodie could have taken The Dark Order in any direction he wanted. But all he wanted to do was help us. A lot of people don’t know this, but after that match, Brodie was the one backstage telling everyone that the match was great and that we needed full-time deals, which we ended up signing. That’s just one example. There were so many other little ways he constantly went out of his way to help us. Brodie was an amazing person. I can’t picture him not being here.”

Their dynamic was built on the fact Tony Khan had pitched the idea to Brodie that Silver become the Stevie Richards to his Raven, a comparison that moved Silver.

“Someone tagged me in that video on Twitter, and watching it has just made me cry. Tony Khan had this idea for us to be like Raven and Stevie Richards. So we had those moments where I’d say he was great and then he’d hit me, or he’d ask me to hold up his belt and then he’d knock me off the apron. Thinking about it just makes me so emotional. I never want there to be another ‘Exalted One.’”

Silver and Lee had an important friendship that clearly meant a lot to John Silver. Tonight will be a chance for him to honor the memory of his late friend.
