WWE Bans Announcers From Using Chris Jericho Related Term

Vince McMahon can be petty sometimes. When Chris Jericho departed WWE, it upset Vince so much that Jericho was removed from the intro video and no one has said his name since.

Apparently, this even applies to use of one of his trademark moves.

On Raw Monday night, Asuka hit a variation of Jericho’s Codebreaker, a move that several other wrestlers have versions of. However, it’s no longer referred to that in the WWE and the term is banned according to a report by the Wrestling Observer.

Asuka made a hot tag and hit a codebreaker, which, by the way, is a term the announcers are banned from using.

The WWE likes to view itself as a pocket universe sometimes. It often doesn’t like referencing wrestlers outside their company or accomplishments outside the company. It’s probably no surprise that the term Codebreaker has made its way to their list of things for commentators not to say. However, Jericho has left such an indeliable mark on the company that the absence of reffering to the move as the Codebreaker is obvious.
