Jon Moxley’s Status For NJPW Wrestle Kingdom Shows
Fans have been waiting for Jon Moxley to defend the IWGP US Title for quite some time now. While Moxley is closing in on one year with the championship, it hasn’t been defended since February thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With early thoughts being that Moxley’s defense against Omega was scheduled for the December 2nd Dynamite to allow him to take time off for the January 4th & 5th Tokyo Dome, we reported earlier the reasoning for that match taking place when it does has nothing to do with that. It’s already been reported that as of right now, Moxley is not booked for the event either, but is he planning to head to Japan?
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has reported that Moxley has not requested any time off to work New Japan, which he would need to do so he could adhere to Japan’s quarantine policy.
“He would have to miss the December 30th show, so he would have to miss one show. What I can tell you is that as of this week, no. That wasn’t — as far as Tony Khan, he has not asked for the date. He could ask for the date, but Moxley has not asked Tony for the date. The fact that they made this match on December 2nd and it was Tony’s call means that it 100% has nothing to do with the Tokyo Dome, Now, could he ask to work the Tokyo Dome?”
Moxley’s situation is pretty clouded at this time. They’re not actively looking to bring him back at this moment, but that might just be them holding off until it’s safe to bring him in. The pandemic has ruined a lot of plans for a lot of companies in 2020, and this looks like to be one of the biggest situations affected by the pandemic.
