FTR – “Vince Apologized For ‘Broken System'”

FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) appeared on this week’s “Excuse Me: The Vickie Guerrero Show” ahead of their AEW PPV debut. The Top Guys will be challenging AEW World Tag Team Champions Kenny Omega & “Hangman” Adam Page this Saturday at All Out, but first they sat down with Guerrero to talk about what brought them here.

FTR made headlines after requesting and ultimately receiving their releases from their WWE contracts this past April. The team spoke to Chris Jericho on his “Talk Is Jericho” podcast shortly after making their AEW Dynamite debut the following month.

Several ex-WWE stars have discussed that company’s “broken system” in interviews and the former Revival are no different. On Guerrero’s podcast, Dax Harwood said they actually received an apology from WWE Chairman Vince McMahon before leaving.

“Our very last meeting with Vince, he told us, he apologized to us because the system was broken. And the crazy thing is… Vince wants to hear those ideas, whether he wants to use them or not. Just like everyone he has an ego, but he wants to hear those ideas.”

“The 130 people you have to go through to get those ideas [to Vince], they’re so afraid to be face-to-face with him… I understand he’s an enigma. I understand that he’s created his own kind of legacy in the minds of people in the business. They’re so afraid of losing their job because they pitch an idea. They want to stay as low-key as possible so they can get a paycheck the next week. That’s a sad place to be.”

Cash Wheeler said Vince McMahon is a genius and can run his company how he chooses, but FTR didn’t have a say in the situation if they were unhappy.

“He’s obviously a genius. He’s revolutionary. He’s changed wrestling without a doubt. There’s no denying what he’s done and he’s earned that right. He owns this business. If I’m sitting face-to-face with him, one of us is a billionaire and one of us is not. Who am I argue what’s right and what’s wrong? But at the end of the day, what works for him doesn’t always work for me… We want to be happy doing what we love.

“If it’s not fulfilling for us, if it’s not making us happy, if it’s making us miserable and we’re getting angry, and if I see people on a weekly basis that I absolutely hate because I know they have the power to go to him, but they don’t want to out of fear, then why am I doing it? It’s all for naught. There’s no point in me beating my head against the wall… It’s best to walk away.”

Vickie Guerrero also recently signed a contract with AEW where she serves as the manager of former AEW Women’s Champion Nyla Rose.

WWE have gone through several creative changes since FTR’s departure including Paul Heyman being removed as executive director of RAW.
