Kevin Nash Reveals Reason His Match With CM Punk Never Happened, Says Triple H Made The Call “I Gotta Beat This F*cker”

Back in 2011, WWE set up what would appear to be an eventual match between Kevin Nash and CM Punk, but the match never took place. Instead, a match between CM Punk and Triple H would take place at WWE’s Night of Champions PPV, a match that Triple H would end up being victorious.

On the most recent episode of Kliq This – The Kevin Nash Podcast, Nash discussed the program with CM Punk from 2011. Nash said that the initial plan was for him to be Triple H’s hired gun.

The 2011 WWE SummerSlam PPV featured a matchup between John Cena and CM Punk, with Triple H acting as the Special Guest Referee, that would unify the WWE Championships that each man owned, putting an end to the dispute over who was the rightful WWE Champion. Following the conclusion of the match which saw Punk come out the winner, Kevin Nash would make his way to the ring through the crowd and attack CM Punk from behind. Nash would eventually hit his trademark Jacknife Powerbomb on Punk, leading to Alberto Del Rio coming out from the back and cashing in his Money In The Bank briefcase to defeat CM Punk for the unified WWE Championship.

This was supposed to set up a match between CM Punk and Kevin Nash. However, Nash revealed that plans changed and he would no longer be wrestling CM Punk at Night of Champions, instead Triple H would, and that he was going to beat him.

“It’s funny now that Vince has taken a backseat to this whole thing, that I see Paul, he owns it now. Like, he has ownership of that company as far as, when they say he’s creative. His demeanor, he is in completely control of that situation. There has never been anybody of his talent in the ring…he was with us and we were all ruthless and we were all very driven for our success. It’s such a different Paul now. When I was supposed to wrestle Punk, he got under Triple H’s skin so bad. Paul just came up to me and said, ‘I’m going to beat him. You’re not going to wrestle him. I’m beating him.’ Cool. That’s why me and Punk never wrestled. He made the call, ‘I gotta beat this fucker.’”
