Tony Khan Reveals That “We’re Not Paying Ric Flair, He Is Essentially Paying Us; We’re Getting Paid By Wooooo Energy”

WWE Hall Of Famer “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair made his AEW debut back on October 25th, 2023 when he was revealed as being Tony Khan’s gift to Sting, a decision that was met with a lot of criticism online.

Flair announced that he would be with AEW and alongside Sting during his final run with the company before he retires following his final match at Revolution on March 3rd, 2024. AEW announced on November 2nd, 2023 that Ric Flair had signed a multi-year deal with the company, which also included a partnership with Flair’s Woooo Energy drink. Which has been advertised during AEW TV since Flair’s debut last month.

Tony Khan recently spoke to Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post about pairing Ric Flair up with Sting for his final ride towards Revolution next March. Khan stated that it meant a lot to Sting for Ric Flair to be with him for the ride, because Sting feels he owns so much of his wrestling career to Flair, and that Sting is “very loyal” to Ric. Khan also noted that Ric Flair brought in a “high-paying sponsorship” to AEW.

Tony Khan then went on to reveal that AEW is not paying Ric Flair, and that essentially AEW is getting paid for all of Flair’s appearances.

“We’re not paying Ric Flair; Ric Flair is essentially paying us We’re getting paid by Wooooo Energy for all of his appearances, so we’re collecting revenue from them.”

Flair’s appearance on AEW television was met with a lot of criticism, and even more so following a promo that Flair made for the December 1st, 2023 episode of AEW Rampage which never made it to air as it was edited out.
