Rocky Romero discusses the possibility of CM Punk heading to New Japan Pro Wrestling.
CM Punk’s exit from AEW was not a calm one on mutual terms, as back at AEW All In, Punk would be fired from the promotion with cause following a backstage brawl at the event that also included Jack Perry. Tony Khan was also present during the altercation, and deemed it necessary to let Punk go from the promotion.
Following his firing, fans have speculated where he could end up next, with IMPACT Wrestling, WWE and NJPW all being possible eventual landing spots for Punk. However, it has been reported that WWE are not interested in bringing Punk back to the company at this time.
In an interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, Rocky Romero said that you could “never know” if CM Punk could turn up in NJPW.
“You never know. Obviously, we didn’t really get to do many crossovers when Punk was with AEW. There was supposed to be that Tanahashi and Punk match that never happened. I think Punk coming and doing Wrestle Kingdom or a big show like that could be, I think, great for our product. Obviously, getting fresh eyes and everything that he brings to merchandise and everything else. I wouldn’t be opposed to it at all,”
“I know Tony pretty well. I would probably give him the heads up like, ‘Hey, this is what’s going on,’ but I don’t think he would have much to say about it. It’s another company. He doesn’t own New Japan, and even though we have a great partnership, I think it’s fine and he’d be cool with it and AEW would be cool with it,”

Punk attended NJPW Battle In The Valley earlier this year during his hiatus from AEW following the 2022 AEW All Out Brawl.
We will have to wait and see if we will see Punk pop up in New Japan Wrestling any time soon.
