Matt Hardy Considers The Idea Of Sting’s Retirement Match Being A World Title Challenge

Matt Hardy considers the possibility of Sting challenging MJF for the AEW World Title in his final matchup inside the squared circle.

A couple of weeks back, Sting announced that he will be winding down his AEW career with it coming to an end at AEW Revolution 2024.

On last week’s AEW Dynamite, Ric Flair would make his AEW debut as Tony Khan’s gift to Sting. During the segment, Flair would state that he wants to join Sting on his ride to retirement at AEW Revolution 2024.

One possibility that fans have debated as Sting’s final match is an AEW World Title match, with the current champion being MJF.

On the latest episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Hardy addressed Sting’s upcoming retirement and the possibility of The Icon facing off with MJF in the future with the title on the line.

“I mean, he deserves it. It’s gonna be sad to see him go. He’s one of the guys I look forward to seeing every week, you know, whenever he is at television. What an amazing dude. What an amazing wrestler. What an amazing run. I can’t say enough good things about Steve Borden. Sting is just fantastic from head to toe. God bless him. He’s had this incredible run, this incredible longevity. He very much deserves to I’ll hate not seeing him around. I hope he still does come around, even just as a character, if he’s not wrestling at all,”

“That’s an interesting question. I would love to see his last match be against a top star. I would love to see it be against a Kenny Omega or MJF. Considering it’s AEW, it would not surprise me if it’s against Darby Allin. I can see him, too, being cool with that in an effort to try and leave something special for Darby when he’s getting ready to step away,”

“I think it would be a hell of a deal, too, if it was his last match and say MJF is still the champion at that point if it was him vs. MJF. One last chance on one last night to try and win the AEW Heavyweight Title before he retires. That’s intriguing as well.”

While Flair and Sting caught up in the ring last week, Christian Cage would make his way to the stage and would make a few insults in Flair’s direction. He would then challenge Sting and Darby Allin to find a partner for AEW Full Gear for a six man tag against he, Nick Wayne and Luchasauras.

We will have to wait and see who Sting will end up squaring off with in his final professional wrestling matchup.
