IWGP Jr Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi Wants To Defend Title Against Darby Allin On AEW TV.

The current IWGP Jr Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated and mentioned that his dream is to have a match on live prime time tv and specifically mentioned AEW. He also indicated if he were to defend the IWGP Jr Heavyweight Title on AEW TV, he would want Darby Allin to be the one to get the shot.

A dream of mine is to have a match on live prime time TV. I’d be stoked to wrestle in AEW any time and defend the IWGP junior heavyweight title there. Last year, I was supposed to team up with Darby Allin and Sting. So I want to team up with Sting rather than wrestle him. Wrestling someone? That would be Darby.”

Takahashi also mentioned that he is hoping to change how USA pro wrestling fans perceive junior heavyweights:

I think Japanese fans already know about how great junior heavyweight wrestling is, but not many fans in the US know what the division means. In the US, cruiserweight divisions used to be more common, but the word ‘junior’ doesn’t mean ‘less than’. Not at all.

Hiromu Takahashi has a busy weekend ahead of him as he is scheduled to team with Rocky Romero at the All Star Jr Festival on August 19th as they take on Master Wato & Blake Christian and DOUKI & Low Rider in a 3 way tag team ladder match. On August 20th Takahashi teams with Mike Bailey as they face Lio Rush and Trey Miguel at NJPW x IMPACT Multiverse United 2.
