IMPACT Wrestling Results & Review: July 27, 2023

-The show kicks off with IMPACT Knockouts World Champion – Trinity – teaming with Subculture member Dani Luna to take on former Knockouts Tag Team Champions, The Coven, KiLynn King & Taylor Wilde.

The team of Trinity & Luna win when Trinity pins Taylor Wilde.

Post-match, Deonna Purrazzo makes her way out and confronts Trinity, making it known that she wants her contractual rematch at the LIVE Emergence event on August 27th.

My thoughts: Deonna is of the best to ever hold the Knockouts Title, and Trinity has the big name that this company can use to spotlight it more. This feud should go on forever, but at least we know we’ll get them squaring off at least one more time.

Lio Rush is sitting backstage in the locker room when he’s approached by Moose, Myers, and Bully Ray. They want to know if he wants to align with them, and say that he needs to make a decision or they’ll decide for him.

Dirty Dango is backstage doing a video, says Bravo is his personal security. His name is now Alpha Bravo.

-Johnny Swinger vs Zicky Dice, Loser Leaves IMPACT Match

Zicky Dice pushes Swinger down to the ring when his music hits.

Once at the ring, Dice goes back to the top of the entrance ramp and starts walking back down once his own music hits. Swinger fools Dice and wins, Zicky Dice is officially out of IMPACT.

My thoughts: I wish IMPACT would’ve given Dice the opportunity to make his character serious. It’s a great thing that I’ve seen In other promotions that the IMPACT fanbase has been deprived of, either by the company or by Dice himself.

We go backstage to Santino Marella standing with Yuya Uemura and Joe Hendry. Santino books a triple threat match between the two of them and Kenny King for the IMPACT Digital Media Title for next week.

We get a hype video for the Main Event between Eric Young and Nick Aldis, followed by comments from Aldis.

-Gisele Shaw (w/Savannah Evans & Jai Vidal) vs Masha Slamovich (w/Killer Kelly)

Gisele Shaw wins after outside interference distracts Masha, and Gisele nails Masha with a huge running knee to the head.

My thoughts: This was a really good match as Gisele defeated one half of the IMPACT Knockouts Tag Team champions. Gisele Shaw is too good to constantly be tied to a group, but hopefully this means she’ll be teaming with Evans to make a legitimate tag team title chase.

A great Jake Something video package airs.

Backstage, we see Frankie Kazarian and his wife Traci Brooks talking about how Brooks wants a piece of Alisha Edwards.

-Moose & Brian Myers vs Time Splitters (IMPACT World Champion Alex Shelley & Kushida)

Shelley & Kushida pick up the victory when….

Post match, Bully Ray makes his way out and so does Lio Rush. Out comes Josh Alexander in an attempt to even the odds. Chris Sabin makes his return and comes out make it 4 on 4 as chaos erupts.

My thoughts: this was cool having Sabin return In this way. We haven’t seen him since his supposed injury at Slammiversary. Coming back to even the numbers is cool for the continued stories.

Alan Angles is in a vignette talking about Heath.

Mike Bailey vs Zachary Wentz

Wentz picks up the victory after cheating to win with a spray paint can while Trey Miguel distracted the referee.

My thoughts: These two guys put on a really great match, and a nice set up for a match being taped this weekend where Bailey/Gresham will take on the Rascalz.

—MAIN EVENT—

-Eric Young vs Nick Aldis

Eric Young wins with a piledriver.

Post-match. Deaner and Kon ambush Young in the ring. Both men leave Young laid out in the ring to end the show.

My thoughts: Really great match between Eric and Nick. Lots of history between the two men, as Young ended Aldis’s only TNA World Title run back in 2014 after 112 days.

I was honestly hoping that after Slammiversary, we saw the end of this Eric Young/Design story for good. My guess is we’ll get Young vs Deaner at Emergence and that’ll be the end of it, or maybe a “good guy” Eric Young once again creates a group to continue doing battle with Deaner & Kon. Frankly, I just don’t care and want it to be over.

Overall: really great show. We got some new matches announced for the company LIVE Emergence event on August 27th from the Rebel Complex in Toronto, Canada.
