Eric Bischoff on CM Punk: What a Bitch

Sometimes these headlines write themselves. Literally.*

Anybody who listens to Eric Bischoff on his 83 Weeks podcast with Conrad Thompson and his Strictly Business podcast with Jon Alba knows that the former President of WCW has no love lost for one CM Punk.

Ever since Punk compared he and Bryan Danielson’s debut in AEW to the nWo, Bischoff has been on a tear, trying to undermine the value of Punk at every turn. In fact, the only two people Bischoff bags on more are Tony Khan and Dave Meltzer.

Ironically, Bischoff and Meltzer probably agree on their perception of Punk; as neither seem to have much respect for the former AEW Champion.

Bischoff has called Punk a variety of names throughout the last couple years. He’s said that Punk wasn’t worth the money that Tony Khan spent on him. He’s called him a coward, a con, and a plethora of other names usually reserved for people who just ran over somebody’s dog.

He’s said that Punk ‘Shit the bed’ when it came to his return as well. But Bischoff, ever the wordsmith, perfectly encapsulated his feelings towards Punk with just three words:

“What a bitch.”

Bischoff, of course, was referring to the fact that CM Punk visited backstage when WWE Raw was in Chicago on April 24, 2023. Punk was allegedly there to visit some friends, make amends, and even have a sitdown conversation with Triple H. Vince McMahon -who actually would have run over Eric Bischoff’s dog in 1997, yet Bischoff offers his admiration of the man at every turn – ordered Punk to leave, which he did without incident.

Eric Bischoff is a lot of things. He’s an innovator. He’s extremely intelligent. He changed professional wrestling forever in 1996. He is, to some, a pretty good guy. But one thing he is not, is a fan of CM Punk.

Punk, to his credit, hasn’t really responded to Bischoff; which is unfortunate because both men have changed the wrestling industry in various ways, and could probably have a fascinating conversation if they ever spoke in public. Much of Wrestling Twitter’s venom is released because two (or more) people are simply misunderstanding each other. The internet has made it easy to smacktalk but rarely does anything productive come out of it. Punk seems to be on a journey of making amends, so maybe there’s a chance he and Bischoff could come face to face and…

Ya know what? Nevermind. That’ll never happen.

*Not literally. That’s insane. They figuratively write themselves.
