Deonna Purrazzo Talks Possibly Working With Steve Maclin

Mickie James had to vacate the IMPACT Knockouts Title this past week on IMPACTonAXSTV due to injury. This set the match for Rebellion with Deonna Purrazzo taking on Jordynne Grace for the vacant belt.

At least night’s Rebellion Pay Per View, Deonna Purrazzo defeated Jordynne Grace with a Queen’s Gambit and scored the pinfall victory to obtain the vacant IMPACT Knockouts Title for the third time. Most fans imagine Mickie James will want a shot at Deonna once she’s healthy and cleared to return.

When asked on Fightful’s In The Weeds if fans could see Maclin & Purrazzo vs. James & Aldis in the future, Purrazzo replied,

“Steve and I have always talked about, we’re not huge intergender wrestlers, but if there’s a story and it made sense, it’d be something we’d be open to. Right now, IMPACT does not allow us on screen together. We’re not allowed to talk about each other. We do not exist in each other’s world yet in IMPACT Wrestling. I don’t know that it will be something that happens, but I think that it makes a lot of sense and if it was something that was brought to the table, I think Steve and I would absolutely be open to it.”

Asked if it was an IMPACT decision or their decision to not be on-screen together, Purrazzo clarified,

“That’s an IMPACT call. I kind of just turned babyface, I’m a good guy, and Steve is super super bad. No one likes Steve Maclin. Those lines in IMPACT can’t be blurred, especially with Steve being World Champion and getting the opportunities that he’s gotten. It’s really important right now to make sure he’s getting the reactions that they need from him and he’s keeping up that persona. Steve Kupryk, in real life, my husband, is the complete opposite of what we see on TV every week. He’s a legit teddy bear. It would take that edge off of him and we’re not ready for that.”

Josh Alexander also had to relinquish the IMPACT World Title due to injury back on March 24th. This left Maclin without an opponent, and so IMPACT had to pull Josh from the Multiverse United show and found Lio Rush as a replacement for Josh; Lio taking on Kushida would be a #1 contenders match with the winner challenging Maclin at Rebellion for the vacant World Title belt.

Steve Maclin, real name Steve Kupryk, is Deonna’s real life husband, and defeated Kushida at the same Rebellion PPV event to capture the also-vacant IMPACT World Title. I imagine when Josh Alexander returns he’ll look to reclaim the World Title belt that he walked away from.

Prior to the match, Nick Aldis made his way out to the commentary booth to reveal that he had just been signed to the company and was coming after the World Title; once the match was over Nick got into the ring and stood toe-to-toe with Maclin, obviously making his intentions known.

Deonna is scheduled to wrestle one half of the IMPACT Knockouts Tag Team Champions, Taylor Wilde, at the Rebellion Fallout television tapings.
