Josh Alexander Relinquishes IMPACT World Title On 4/6 Episode
On March 24th, it was announced by IMPACT that Josh would be out indefinitely with an injury, and would have to relinquish his World Title – the injury ended up being a torn tricep, which required surgery.
Josh came out to the ring escorted by his wife, Jade, and his son, Jett. His arm was in a cast from the recent surgery. Newly-promoted IMPACT President Scott D’Amore was in the ring to oversee the proceeding, along with the Rebellion World Title competitors Maclin and Kushida. Josh thanks Scott for the opportunity and signing him to IMPACT Wrestling 4 years ago. Jade consoles Jett in the corner.
Josh says he’s going to be watching the Rebellion match and keeping an eye on whoever wins. Josh addresses both Kushida and Maclin, saying that Kushida already make Maclin tap out. The crowd starts a “you tapped out” chant, directed at Maclin. Josh says Maclin has earned his spot in this match fighting for the World Title, but he wishes he was going to be the one battling Maclin.
Josh goes to physically hand the World Title to Scott. His son Jett runs over and grabs the World Title belt, running back to his mom with it. Josh talks to his son and consoles him, explaining that they have to give the title back to the company. Maclin tells Scott to hand him the belt right now.
Maclin and Kushida have a face off ahead of their Rebellion match for the World Title. They exchange blows and Kushida puts Maclin into the Hoverboard Lock. Maclin squirms out and grabs the title while rolling to the outside. Kushida flips over the top rope onto Maclin, he then grabs the World Title belt and brings it back into the ring, posing with it to end the segment.
Josh Alexander relinquished the title after being champion for 348 days, the longest reigning NwA/tna/IMPACT World Champion.
Kushida takes on Steve Maclin to crown a new IMPACT World Champion at Rebellion.
