Exclusive: Colby Corino Talks About Punching Masato Tanaka And Otani At Six Years Old

Don’t mess with a young Colby Corino!

The Corino family has been around wrestling for a very long time, from dads, aunts, and now sons, the Corino name is one of the most recognizable names in the world of Pro-Wrestling and to a young Colby Corino, that was normal. Recently, Colby Corino sat down with Bodyslam and spoke about growing up as the son of wrestling legend Steve Corino and gave a fascinating story about seeing his father preform live.

Oh, no doubt, like, to me it was all normal, I didn’t really have anything else to compare it to, I didn’t have a ton of friends that I hung out with or anything, so, it just, the wrestling world was my normal life, it was my normal world. I guess the one memory that I can point to that’s kind of like “oh, I definitely grew up a different way” was that, whenever my dad would bleed in his matches, which was pretty frequently, and I was there, he would come back and I wouldn’t be scared, I wouldn’t be freaking out or nothing that my dad was hurt, I’d wipe up all the blood, I’d put the bandaids on him wherever he was cut, on his forehead or his arm or whatever and it was just like “oh yeah, my dad bleeds for a living.”

He went on to tell a story about his father in Japan, and getting into a scuffle at only six.

Seeing all the legends that I interacted with in Japan, like I don’t know if you ever saw the video of me punching out Masato Tanaka and Otani when I was like six years old, yeah, it’s crazy, I guess I was just a little upset that my dad got beat up by these two Japanese guys, so after the match, after he got pinned, I slid in and I punched Masato Tanaka and he bumped for me and then Ontani fed in and I punched him, he bumped too, and then I chased him to the back and it was completely unplanned, it was completely like, dude I was reacting, but it was wild! […] It was not called at all, but, my dad thought he was going to get fired or something when he got to the back, thought he was in so much trouble, but, like, everyone was so like, they loved it, everyone was just laughing and they thought it was great.

He continued.

After, he asked me like “why did you do it, Colby?” And I looked at him and six year old Colby goes “well, he gave me the eye!”
