Spooky Wrestler Of The Day – Day 7 – The Zombie

When you hear about spooky things and Halloween ghouls, what do you think of? Werewolves? Vampires? Ghosts? What about Zombies?! Well, if you have a spooky wrestler list, you know The Zombie has to be included! The infamous ECW Zombie is one of legends and his appearance was one we’ll never forget.

Tim Arson was an independent pro-wrestler who got some extra work for WWE in 2006. He worked a match against Matt Stryker on WWE Heat and things went well. So well, that he was invited back for the next days SmackDown/WWE ECW Tapings. Little did he know, he was in for a world of surprises. WWE’s ECW wasn’t exactly the ECW you immediately think of, it was more of a goofy parody. Well, it went even more in that direction with ECW’s TV programming being aired on SyFy. On the June 13th taping of WWE ECW, Sandman was scheduled to have a match, but his opponent no-showed. So, he needed a new opponent. Who would they pick though? Well, Tim Arson, the extra talent, was there and free to work. So, they used him. But, they went in a different direction. SyFy is all about supernatural right? So, they had Tim Arson dress up as a Zombie and go out to the ring to cut a promo. And by promo, I mean grunting noises. Yes, no words, just grunts and moans. He was interrupted by Sandman who beat the ever loving piss out of him. The Zombie got beat with a kendo stick repeatedly for what felt like an eternity, before being hit by a Russian leg sweep and then beat with the kendo stick to the back. And we never, ever saw the ECW Zombie again. Why didn’t he ever come back? Well, maybe the zombie was just too scary to be seen on TV. Arson ended up passing away in 2015. Rest in peace, the legend of The Zombie will live on forever.
