Antonio Inoki Was Expected To Die The Last 3 Years, Held On Longer Than Expected

Antonio Inoki wasn’t ready to die and fought to stay alive longer than anyone expected.

Last week the wrestling world mourned as Antonio Inoki passed away. Inoki was also a pivotal part of Mixed Martial Arts, paving the way for the sport with his bout with Muhammed Ali.

Dave Meltzer reports in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the general feeling in Japan was that his death was expected.

For probably three years, insiders in Japanese wrestling knew that his death was inevitable and he hung on longer than expected.

Even with death as an opponent, Inoki did not give in, showing his legendary will, even when the world told him he didn’t have long to live.
