Different Direction Planned For The Young Bucks Not Involving FTR

The Young Bucks are no longer AEW Tag Team Champions.

Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland defeated The Young Bucks and Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs for the AEW Tag Titles. Many fans had a mixed reaction due to the feeling that the Young Bucks would take on FTR at AEW All Out for all the gold in a historic tag team match. But, in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer explained that the match between the Bucks and FTR wasn’t the initial plan. A different major angle has been in the works for some time, but now that angle is complicated by some ongoing injury issues.

Even though fans clearly wanted FTR vs. Young Bucks with all four tag titles at stake, as noted by the impromptu reaction last week, that was not the plan, at least for now. It could be something done long-term, but maybe not that dream tag match where you have two or the best teams of the era with belts from AEW, New Japan, AAA and ROH all in one match which could be viewed as historical. But not sure how long FTR would hold the IWGP and AAA belts. But there was a different major angle planned for the Young Bucks soon. Obviously Young Bucks & Kenny Omega vs. Adam Cole & Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly was a direction and AEW was going to introduce trios titles when Omega was healthy, but with Omega and Cole both out of action, no word on how close that would be.

The Elite vs. Undisputed Era has been a dream match for many fans for a long time. As well as many fans asking for Trios Titles. But, now with injuries littering the wrestling world, it’s unknown when exactly Kenny Omega and Adam Cole could return.
