Cain Velasquez Arrested, Charged With Attempted Murder

Former MMA star and professional wrestler Cain Velasquez has been arrested following a shooting in Morgan Hill, California, according to the San Jose P.D. He’s the primary suspected in the shooting and is charged with attempted murder. While the motive is uncertain, the inflicted gunshot wound was not fatal. It was said to be in the midsection. The victim’s identity has not been identified to the public.

The NBC Bay Area website was the first to report the involvement of the former UFC Heavyweight Champion and current AAA wrestler. Jail records, which can be accessed publicly here, show that is set for his first court date tomorrow at noon. The court code is 43470, confirming that Velasquez will be appearing in San Jose’s Superior Court facility.

Velasquez, who won UFC’s Heavyweight Championship on two ocassions by defeating Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos, hasn’t competed in UFC since his loss to current champion Francis Ngannou three years ago. Since, Velasquez has crossed over into professional wrestling, primarily with AAA, where he’s perhaps best known for his trios tag match with Cody Rhodes and Psycho Clown against Taurus, Killer Kross and Texano Jr. at TripleMania XXVII. Velasquez had a brief stint with WWE, where he challenged Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship in Saudi Arabia. He was released before having another appearance with the promotion.
