Over the last few weeks a lot has been made of what is next for UFC lightweight Nate Diaz and while most of that talk has been in relation to a possible retirement fight with Dustin Poirer, the looming trilogy fight with Conor McGregor isn’t on his bucket list before he retires, at least right now.

Speaking to Adam’s Apple, Diaz made it clear he feels Conor needs to be the one to earn the trilogy fight, “Not right now. He’s got a lot of work to do.” Since dropping a decision loss to “The Notorious”, Diaz has gone 1-2, dropping losses at 170lbs to both Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards, defeating Anthony Pettis at 155 before those bouts. McGregor on the other hand has dropped two back to back losses to Dustin Poirer, was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov, with a win at 170 over Donald Cerrone since UFC 202. Of course, he also became the first simultaneous two weight world champion at UFC 205 when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez in the second round. While Nate may be baiting McGregor into signing for a trilogy fight, time will tell if that fight will ever come to fruition.
